Chris: I'm very happy with the 2wd on the Burb. Matter of fact, I went looking for one. I don't need 4wd at all. Maybe if I was a skier and wanted to get up the mountains in the winter, but I sure don't need it for cruisin the salt flats (see photo.)
I gotta get the salt off of there. I'm gonna give that a shot tomorrow. Gonna borrow a dual sprinkler thingie from Jim Halliday (list member) which he says worked very well on his brand new Chebby pick-em-up (nice truck...a Colorado with a very strong and smooth 4-banger and a nice 5-speed trans)...I know he was a bit worried about taking the brand new one out onto the salt, and I don't blame him...but he tells me that many of the underside parts are galvanized....so he'll prolly be ok.
Anyway, back on 4 vs 2, I think that unless there's a real need for the 4wd...like your back yard...it's more of a needless expense than a benefit. But I know there are a whole lotta folks who would disagree with me. But then I'm gonna lower my Burb rather than doing the 4wd "jack-em-up" thing. Btw, while I was gone, I got the baby moons which will replace the dog dish caps. And I need to find some time to install the electric fans...and then order the drop spindle and rear axle flip kit. Maybe lakes pipes. :)
Ohh...and curtains for the rear windows or 100 percent opaque tinting. They're tinted now, but only like 50 percent. I don't think total black-out tinting is prohibited in the back side windows....but I'd still need curtains for the back glasses and frond windows. I can (and do) use my sun shade for the windshield.

Since I'm looking at getting a truck I'm confronting whether I want 4WD. Pros: less chance of getting stuck in a very nose heavy vehicle, highest trim level only available 4WD. Cons: maintenance costs, rough handling, get stuck farther away. The majority of the trucks use will be for daily driving, the occasional vacation trip and trips to pick up parts/cars. There are two instances I can think of I would use 4WD: on the beach on vacation or driving around to the back of my house - we live down a hill... Anything I've driven to the back of my house gets stuck - it's damp back there (wooded, little sun). I might end up parking the truck back there, since I don't think a mega cab truck is going to fit in our garage: 8'W x 7'H door, 19' deep... Your thoughts?
