Cheers,
 Shell.

Shell, try and read the Resnick books in order. I have nmost, if not all of
them if you cannot find them.

My next scan is the Ishiguro short story collection.

John Harvey has had three different series. The first was Charlie Resnick
and there were ten of those. they are set in Nottingham and Resnick is
famous for loving jazz, so you should like that Shell. He also loves
football and making and eating exotic sandwiches. His second series is
the
Frank elder books and there are three of those. The latest set, of which
his new book is number two, I have not read yet.

I know I have pet hates and things I look for when reading, and if too
many
of the minus
points turn up in one book, then it's a non finisher. i'm sure everyone
else is the same,
but with different dislikes and likes. Sometimes i can't even put my
finger
on what it is
that is putting me off, just a case of not connecting. Martina Cole and
Tess Gerritsen
were 2 big let downs for me but I've only tried one book each of their's,
so
may try
another if I ever get over the first ones. I love McBain though, keep
meaning to read
them all again in the right order. I've never tried John Harvey, what
sort
of series is
that?
Shell.

Yes, I know exactly what you mean. Some people rave about authors who I
just can't stand, Ed McBain being one of those. I also really like
Elizabeth George, whereas others who normally share my taste in detective
fiction can't stand her. Lynda Laplante is another who does nothing for
me,
as is Martina Cole, but they are both hugely popular. Shell recently
disliked the latest Kate Atkinson, whereas I really enjoy her writing.

Reginald Hill is somewhat mixed for me. some of his Dalziel and Pascoe
novels I really love, but there are others I do not like at all.

John Harvey will be winging its way to you all very soon.

Dave, it would be more accurate to say I don't appreciate Jill McGowan's
style of intricate detective fiction. It's funny how some authors grab
you
and others don't. For instance, I@ve never been able to get away with
Reginald Hill yet I really like John Harvey. Is it a style thing?

Scene of crime by Jill McGown is now on the book site, and has been
forwarded to all on this list apart from Ian who does not appreciate
intricate detective fiction.

My next scan is the new John Harvey, probably followed by the new
Ishiguro
short story collection called "Nocturne" which consists of stories about
music.
