If there is a depot garrison and an enemy corps entrees the same are
depot garrison has a choice - fight or destroy the depot. If there is a
friendly or controlled city in the area dept garrison will go to the
city, if no city depot garrison is lost.
We can imagine a situation where 10 British infantry guards a depot and
a Turkish feudal force enters the area. If Britain decides to fight it
could win the battle due to moral and Turkey would retreat - garrison
depot prevented depot destruction.
