[on behalf of Simon Knight]

The new issue of the Journal of Learning Analytics 4(2) is now available
from the Journal website
<http://learning-analytics.info/journals/index.php/JLA/
issue/view/405/showToc>,
including a special section 'the Shape of Educational Data', alongside 4
research papers. In the editorial
<https://learning-analytics.info/journals/index.php/JLA/article/view/5593

for
this issue the editors discuss some exciting changes to the journal
including:

   - A new section for 'Practical Reports', that describe the application
of learning analytics across diverse contexts
   - A new section for 'Tool and Dataset Reports', that introduce datasets
and novel tools or methods, providing opportunity to develop shared
   approaches to learning data.
   - Structured notes,which have been introduced for our research papers
and practical reports sections to foster connections between these two
areas by asking authors to communicate the significance of the work for
   both research and practice.
   - Book reviews, to inform readers of recent publications of relevance to
the community. The editors will accept proposals for reviews of books
relevant to the learning analytics community. Review will provide a
concise
overview and critical analysis of the books.

Readers should refer to the editorial
<https://learning-analytics.info/journals/index.php/JLA/article/view/5593>,
and journal Focus and Scope
<http://learning-analytics.info/journals/index.php/JLA/
about/editorialPolicies#focusAndScope>
for
further details about these changes. As always, the Journal welcomes
proposals for special sections, and submissions of research papers that are
of relevance to the learning analytics community, including (now explicitly
in our Focus and Scope), review papers that offer a rigorous examination of
the literature.

We're also pleased to announce a Call for Papers for a new Special Section
with
a focus on methods in learning analytics: "An Embarrassment of Riches:
Special Section on Methodological Choices in Learning Analytics
<https://learning-analytics.info/journals/index.php/JLA/
announcement/view/129>"
edited by Yoav Bergner, Geraldine Gray, and Charles Lang.  Optional
abstracts are request for August 1, 2017 with the deadline for paper
submissions on October 15, 2017.

Simon (on behalf of the editors, JLA)
