The Virtual Learning Lab <http://virtuallearninglab.org/> (VLL), funded by
an $8.9 million IES grant and led by five of the top researchers in the
field of personalized learning, is currently seeking high caliber graduate
students to join the team. The VLL is offering 5 distinct remote-work
research projects for the 2019/2020 academic year. The graduate student
externs will:

·         Gain real-world experience conducting analyses with the support
of world-renowned experts on large and complex data sets

·         Publish research as the first-author

·         Receive up to $3,000 compensation (contingent upon eligibility to
work in US)

The five research projects are:

·         Mathematics Teacher Engagement with Personalized Learning with
Dr. Thomasenia Adams, University of Florida

·         Measurement Model Challenge with Dr. A. Corinne Huggins-Manley,
University of Florida

·         Natural Language Processing Challenge with Dr. Danielle McNamara,
Arizona State University

·         Engagement Detection Challenge with Dr. Sidney D'Mello,
University of Colorado Boulder

·         Evaluation of Treatment Effect Heterogeneity in Virtual Learning
Environments with Dr. Walter Leite, University of Florida

Externs will be able to work fairly independently on their project, meeting
weekly or biweekly with the principal investigator via videoconference.

requirements set by the professor leading the research. Preferred
characteristics for all applicants include:

·         Currently enrolled in a graduate school program related to the
research project of interest

·         Capable of working independently

·         Ability to conceptualize and carry out a plan of research

·         Ability to produce a written deliverable (e.g. a manuscript or
technical report)
