Hi Cheryl,
We’ve always looked at the scores individually and we don’t use
social-emotional or self-help. We don’t use a hard and fast cut off score. The
screening team’s debate usually happens when only motor is low. In years past,
we would have a lively discussion and include impressions of the child during
the play rotation (no play rotation this year). Occasionally the scores would
be average but play raised concerns and we’d refer for an eval based on that
and comments on the parent questionnaire. We always look more closely when we
read that the preschool flagged the concern.
I hope that helps,
Chris

Hi EC psychs!
I hope everyone had a chance to relax a bit during their spring breaks!
If you use the DIAL-4 (or used it pre-pandemic) for screenings, what threshold
are you using to determine if domains should be opened? The DIAL-4 has five
scales: concepts, communication, motor, social-emotional, and self-help. It
also has a DIAL-4 total score, which only combines concepts, communication, and
motor (e.g., does not include social-emotional or self-help). Do you consider
each scale individually, or do you only look at the DIAL-4 total to determine
whether to open domains?
Simply curious how others are proceeding post-screening. Thanks for your input!
