Hi Gareth,

We can't say anything about Shipstons in particular, as we haven't used
them... But we can say something about our experience with flooring: we did
*a lot* of research and reading around on flooring:
- different types of floors (laminate, solid wood, engineered wood etc),
- different types of wood (hardwood: maple, oak, ash; softwood: pine etc),
- wood ageing (changes in colour, surface etc),
- resistance to water (spillage, cleaning etc)
before making a decision - and it's really been worth it!

Think about how much wear the floor will get, is it a hallway or kitchen,
do you wear shoes in the house, etc, which will help working out which wood
types are suitable.

The more you know beforehand, the clearer your spec - and when you ask for
a quote, then you notice pretty quickly whether the suppliers know their
business!

Thanks for information Teresa.

Hi Gareth

Yes we did, about 9 years ago – because his son did our house renovations
and extension.

However, while we would wholeheartedly recommend Pete (his son) we were
not impressed with the floors – a number of the new pine floors we had laid
upstairs have bits of wood that have splintered.  This could, of course, be
down to us using office chairs with wheels on (!) but colouring wasn’t
great either.  Not sure if because we didn’t set out our spec. clearly
enough but overall not very impressed.

Hi just wondering if anyone had used Shipstons at all for flooring?

Thanks Gareth.
