What the hell does Clem Attlee talking about poverty have to do with licensing
hours? Or are you mocking Gordon again, he he? Very funny

Dear Members of ECCO
I think that the people who will be most affected are those of us who live
at the bottom of Rossington Road and on Brocco Bank. I’m remembering how it
was for these folk during lockdown when people were partying in Endcliffe
Park till late at night/early hours of the morning.
Just because it may not directly affect those of us who live on
Everton/Newington/Wiseton and the “Vale” Estate doesn’t mean that we can’t
be neighbourly and think about those who will be directly affected.
With appreciation and gratitude for everything that the members of the ECCO
committee do on our behalf.

...and if they're *officially* allowed to be open till late, it means you
have to add an extra hour (at least) to that time before customers have left
(banging car doors, revving up engines and shouting around in the process).
No, I'm not tarnishing everyone with the same brush - it only needs *one*
lot like that per night to impact negatively on neighbouring residential
areas.
Plus, Nonna's really doesn't strike me as struggling for survival - they've
been ever so busy from the first day they were allowed to reopen.

Dear Chriss
I fear that you mean that every restaurant on Ecclesall Road would be open

AND, I agree, this is just the thin dge of the wedge.

This is what Atlee had to say about such things.........
I entirely agree that people should have the greatest freedom compatible
with the freedom of others. There was a time when employers were free to
work little children for sixteen hours a day. I remember when employers were
free to employ sweated women workers on finishing trousers at a penny
halfpenny a pair. There was a time when people were free to neglect
sanitation so that thousands died of preventable diseases. For years every
attempt to remedy these crying evils was blocked by the same plea of freedom
for the individual. It was in fact freedom for the rich and slavery for the
poor.
Do we really want the lowest possible denominator on Ecclesall Road
If this is accepted if will not be reviewed after the pandemic is over in
fact I suspect it will open the flood gates for every bar to be open until
1pm

Hi
I advise that individuals also go on to Sheffield planning and make
individual comments on the application in addition to any collective
submission.
Previous emails include the web address and the a application can be found
searching for Nonna on the Sheffield city council planning site.

Hello
And thank you for letting us know. I agree with the above and support an
objection to nonnas request for an extension of their hours. We live in a
residential area and need to keep the quiet as much as possible rather than
letting the noisy hectic mayhem of such as west street creep to our area.
An extension will also increase traffic and taxis in particular.
Thus I support ECCO sending an objection and I’ll try to send something to
our councillor

Agree with Gordon. Also, whilst other businesses are seriously struggling,
we've noticed that Nonna's always seems to be busy, whenever we go past it.
So the argument that they wouldn't be able to cope doesn't look genuine -
it's just that they see a good opportunity to get what they've always
wanted...
We will certainly put in an objection.
I can also send one on behalf of ECCO, from the ECCO Secretary email account.
Do we need a (virtual) meeting to discuss this, just in case there are pros
as well as cons? Happy to set one up if needed.
Mike, what is the deadline for objections?

I think that we should object to this - certainly as individuals, and
hopefully acting together through ECCO.
Nonnas have tried to get extended opening hours in the past for exactly the
same reason - to enable their business to be viable. And we fought the
application back then.
As far as I am concerned, if a business operating under current planning
restrictions cannot be viable, they should close or move. They know what the
limits are and should run their business accordingly, and should not go
crying to the authorities if they are not astute enough to make their
business work. As for the Covid-19 restrictions, everyone is in the same
boat, and individual businesses should not be asking for special
considerations.
The government are pushing for relaxation of planning restrictions around
new housing, so there is unfortunately an atmosphere of businesses being
willing to exploit people and the environment for their own personal gain.
If Nonnas win this application, every single other business on Ecclesall
Road will apply and get the same.
Ecclesall Road is bad enough as it is, so we should fight to maintain the
current planning and licensing restrictions.
We should also lobby our councillors and MP:
MP: Paul BLOMFIELD <paul.blomfield.mp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>
Councillors (Broomhill and Sharrow Vale Ward):
Angela Argenzio (Green Party)

Kaltum Rivers (Green Party)

(We do not currently have a third councillor - election postponed until May
2021. Our third councillor was Michelle Cook (Labour), who resigned in
January 2020 - http://democracy.sheffield.gov.uk/mgAi.aspx?ID=20971)

Hi all
Nonna's have made a planning application to extend their opening hours on
Fridays and Saturdays.
They want to stay open until 1am in the morning and keep their terrace open
until 11pm on those days.
Generally, restaurants on Ecclesall Road have been restricted to 11pm (or is
it 11.30pm) for many years past. So this would be a substantial extension.
Nonna's argue that Covid-19 restrictions would make them unviable unless
they get this extension. However one needs to understand that planning
permission cannot be retracted once it has been granted.
I don't know whether ECCO members will have strong views about this matter.
If so then we could comment on the planning application as a group.
The Planning Application can be viewed by visiting
https://planningapps.sheffield.gov.uk/online-applications/ and searching ;
either for 'nonnas' or 20/02633/FUL
