I love wild flowers and bees and am planning to plant a wild flower patch in my
garden but I’m totally with Tracey on this one in every sentiment. Also happy
to help cut and edge verges of neighbours.

I am going to put my head above the parapet and be a dissenting voice. I love
to see wild flowers growing and have seen it done well on roundabouts and in
parks. I do everything I can in my garden to encourage bees and insects.
However, I don't think verges on a suburban road are the place for wild
flowers. I think, unless they are very, very well maintained they can look
scruffy and unloved. I much prefer to see well maintained, neatly manicured
verges. I also think any decision about what happens to the verges on
Endcliffe Glen Road should be that of the residents of Endcliffe Glen Road
and not neighbouring streets. Sorry to be a kill joy but I won't be
supporting the growing of wild flowers on the verge outside of my house but I
would be happy to help cut and edge the verges of neighbours on the road who
struggle to look after theirs.

I also think it's a great idea! As Liz says, we have to commit to maintaining
the verge edges (and helping neighbours who aren't able to do it) and also be
ready to provide the wildflower seed.
A good topic for discussion at an ECCO meeting...

Some people will not be as committed as others!
I have some wild flower seeds if you want to give it a go

I think there has been weed killer spraying on the pavements on Newington
too which I am very unhappy about. I would rather get my hoe out instead.
I'm all for wild flowers....some 'weeds' look very pretty, as well providing
food for bees and insects.

Great point raised Clare. We would very much support leaving the
wild grasses to grow and attract the bees and other pollinators.

Hi all,
I'm just wondering what people's views are about the council spraying &
cutting the grass verges on Endcliffe Glen Road. I've attached 3 photos.
Grass verges in Rotherham getting recognition for attracting bees, insects
and wildlife. My son looking at a bee on the recent sprayed verge on
Endcliffe Glen road, and then today with all the long grass cut. The dead
grass at the edges from spraying seems so unnecessary. We should be
attracting bees and wildlife not deterring it.
Could we consider asking the council not to spray in our area and instead
growing wildflowers along these verges next year?
I can't make meetings very often but is this something that could be
discussed?
Thanks, Clare Anderson
