You might like to note these emails re my local area. And perhaps pass
this on to whichever SGP person 'looks after' the relevant polling
district, as residents in local area might be reluctant to open their front
door or talk to canvassers.

SUBJECT: Cold Callers Warning
Perhaps you could let people know the following:-
On 14th October one of the men who sell kitchen things like tea towels,
dusters and cleaning mops called late afternoon. When we nicely refused
to buy from him he aggressively stated he would burn our caravan down
later on. He is around 5ft 8 inches stocky with short dark hair. We
informed the Police who were excellent, they subsequently gave us an
incident number.
Last night at around 9.30pm a man rang the door bell I looked
quietly through the side window and noted he was one of these cold
calling men. I thought he was a skinhead, but he could have been
wearing a woolly hat. He then banged on the window when we did not
answered the door. Later we went out to see if he had scratched the
car; however he had cut the Police no cold calling card in half with a
knife and then stuck it on the down pipe by the back gate.
We have taken photos and informed the Police who have given us another
incident number. They have also requested we let others in the area
know what is happening in case more people are being intimidated, and if
so please contact the Police.

SOME UPDATES ON COLD CALLING
We used to feel quite sorry for the guys calling and thought the schemes
were legit. We had an incident and then started checking credential etc
and of course all bogus. One guy drives young lads in from Leeds,
Manchester or wherever and sits in the car like Fagin waiting for
secondary opportunities, to apply more pressure and or steal.
We now answer the door and just say politely and strongly that we don't
deal with any door to door enquiries and only donate to charities
online. We did that a few times and nobody calls anymore. If we all did
the same they'd just cross the road off as viable. If that makes us feel
guilty then can donate to a deserving and legitimate charity instead.

What a terrible state of affairs.
I did some research into the cold callers last year – they are a
private ltd company – not at all affiliated or connected to a charity
or similar. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the company
now, which is a shame.
If they call on us again I will be sure to ask before I send them away.
