Good points, Gordon. The decline in 'traditional' shops will, I think,
continue because of online shopping. So what to replace them with becomes a big
question. One for further discussion!

As I see it, it would be sad to lose yet another 'traditional' shop in favour
of bars and take-aways, but I feel that we have lost the battle with Ecclsall
Road.
The thing we need to do is to get the 11.30pm 'curfew' enforced, which means
stopping applicants from citing the existing late night places on the basis
that all the existing after 11.30pm closing places are exceptions due to
previous applications/licenses. Perhaps a letter or talk to our councillors
letting them know about the application, even if it has been withdrawn, on the
basis that yet again it was attempting to set a precedent for ever later
opening.
We have to fight the 'race to the bottom' at all costs. This Christmas watch
'It's A Wonderful Life' to see what happens when the good people are not there.

Interesting dilemma. That row of shops needs occupying. But late night noise
will always be an issue around Ecclesall Road.

The planning application appears to have been taken down - so all claer for now.
But I think we do need to be on our guard about the future of Jesters, with it
beingh so close to us.
Interestingly, talking to the staff at Jesters, it seems that about three years
ago Jesters was sold by the then owners to a national firm that supplies these
sorts of shop, but they were able to keep the name. The staff say that poor
buying decisions for stock started the shop on a downward spiral to the present
closure. Moral of the story - keep shops local so that they will work properly
in the local economy, supporting local jobs and spending and providing what
local people need.

Hi all
Jesters (the card shop next to Hunters Bar roundabout) has applied for Planning
Permission to become a Hot Food Takeaway. They are applying to be open from
12.00 to 2.00 on weekdays and Saturdays and 12.00 to 00.30 on Sundays. I am
not sure which hours nearby Takeaways open.
