Yes, you are right, David. There was also a family of Trolls too! I believe there were a number of Roses, Teddy, Margaret and another sister whose name I forget. We are going off topic here, but once we have all the introductions we will get back to books. Think you were a couple of classes behind me. I was there with Michael Pearson, Carol Tatham, Philip Praille, Teddy Rose, if that helps. I think you were a year or two older than us. Alison -----Original Message----- From: ebooktalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ebooktalk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of David Russell Sent: 26 April 2013 09:56 To: ebooktalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ebooktalk] introduction Morning all Everyone else is introducing themselves, so maybe I should follow suit. I cannot boast the star-studded experiences of Ian or Elaine, but my biography, such as it is, is below. My earliest memories are staying at East Grinstead sunshine Home in Sussex, where my twin brother alan and I were sent at three years old. We moved on to North House, then to Linden lodge. Alan then went on to Worcester, and I ended up at RNC in Shropshire, where I came across Ian. After leaving Shropshire I got a job as a computer programmer, but this did not work out well, so I ended up working as a shorthand-typist in London for NatWest Bank. I stayed there until 1995 when they computerised their system and it was not possible for blind people to cope with the system they introduced, so I was made redundant. With my redundancy money I paid off my mortgage, and, not being able to find work elsewhere, set up my own business from home, transcribing books from cassette onto computer disk. I was able to persuade people who had books they had written and did not wish to type them out from longhand to talk them onto tape and I then did the typing. At my peak, I had 45 customers, most producing work each week, so I often worked a six or seven day week. A couple of years ago I decided to scale down a little, and actually retired at the beginning of 2012. As far as hobbies go, I love reading which goes without saying as we all do on this list. I love all kinds of music, although I cannot get into opera, and have a very low tolerance level for country and western. Sport is another love of mine, but listening rather than participating. The computer takes up a fair amount of my day, and email lists are where I came across many of you. My twin alan is also on this list, although his contributions have been limited of late. I am hoping his circumstances will allow him to take a more active role, as he is an avid reader. There you go folks, that is my potted biography. David
