David, following on from your message I looked him up on Wikipedia. Here's

He sounds like quite an interesting guy - and I hadn't realised he was
responsible for the Judge John Deeds series. Be interested to know how you

Does anyone know of this author.  I just picked up one of his books "Crime
and Punishment" for £1.54 on the kindle.  It appears to be one, I think the
first, in a series about a family over half a century.  Coincidentally some
of his books are being serialised this week as afternoon plays on radio 4.

Any information or opinions would be welcome.
