Hello Pele,

I have that same politically incorrect experience with some American books
but have got on reasonably well with Jodi P. I do agree about "The Help"
though; I learned so much from it.

I find it harder, though, when the authors are American but writing as
though they are not, with inevitable gaffes.

Have just this minute finished "Room" by Emma Donoghue; a frighteningly
topical concept but I couldn't put it down.

Take care,

Elaine

Hi Steve

I can't get on with Jodi Piccoult at all, I am afraid. I tried "House Rules"
and one, the title of which I have forgotten, and gave up with both of them.

I have to admit that I find a lot of American books annoy me. I am not sure
if it is the language or all the self-analysis, or ... I don't know.

I suppose it is not politically correct, but there you go. It has to be a
really good American book to get me to stay with it. "The Help" by Kathryn
Stockett was one such book.

Pele
