Another way that might be easier highlight the file, then right click on it
by using the application key or shift f10. Down arrow till you get to open
with submenu. Right arrow on that and enter on choose program and you will be
given a list and you can check the always use this program check box. Just one
more way to do the same thing that George already mentioned.

I want to change the file association of .brf from Microsoft word to Duxbury,
so that Duxbury 10.6 henceforth will automatically open .brf files, instead of
Microsoft word - which was handy for a while. (Windows XP.) How to make this
change? Thanks.
