Poetry style/code should not preserve the first line indent unless the
regular [para] codes are still in there. Very odd.

Well, all's well that ends well, as they say.

Yes, I use poetry style too but the indent on the first line is still in
effect and throws off the hanging indent. I have a style and a template
now so that I can get what I need, thanks to Dave, and to all of you for
helping me with this.

Ann, not to muddy the waters here, but when I have to do a numbered
list, I use the poetry code [ptys and ptye] which produces a "hanging"
indent: the number is at the margin and the subsequent lines are
indented wherever I say. The scanning finger down the margin finds the
numbers. I do this with schedules, too--the time at the margin and the
rest of it indented. List style probably does the same thing... I just
like to micromanage by inserting codes exactly where I want them.

My particular situation requires me to emboss a lot of handouts with
numbered and bulleted lists. That paragraph style that indents the
first line plays havoc with those lists. Also, due to the fact that the
bulk of our brailled documents includes forms, meeting notes, training
materials, and everything under the sun except literary reading
materials, having a skipped line helps the braille reader to locate the
next item more quickly with a scanning finger down the left margin. If
we were doing textbooks or other literary docs like library books, etc,
I would be happy to have the traditional paragraph of a cell three
indent.

Hi Ann,

I'm curious to know why you should have to change paragraph Styles to
include a blank line between then, and begin in cell 1?

I could understand there being a few very exceptional circumstances, but
both BANA and BAUK recommend no blank line, and beginning the paragraph
in cell 3.

I know for sure that if we deviated from the BAUK recommended paragraph
format here in the UK, we would be inundated with complaints from
experienced braille readers.

George.
