Joanie, This is certainly possible, if it is desirable. I'll let others comment on the latter question. - Peter -----Original Message----- From: duxhelp-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:duxhelp-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Joanmarie Diggs Sent: Tuesday, March 22, 2005 11:54 AM To: duxhelp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [duxhelp] Re: Embosser Setup (again) That's a tough one. I don't know if this is even possible, but.... If the user created a template and did NOT make any changes in Document Embosser Setup, could the new template not store any embosser details? And, if the user DID make any changes in Document Embosser Setup, could the settings stick with the template? Rationale: When you create a new document based on one of the templates that ship with Duxbury, that new document will be associated with whatever the default embosser happens to be at the time. Changing the default embosser down the road requires no additional action on the part of the user -- at least for new documents -- because embosser settings don't stick with the shipped templates. If you have a need to create additional styles, you cannot add those styles to the templates that ship with Duxbury. Therefore you have to create new templates. When you do so, whether you realize it or not, you are causing all new documents you create based on that template to be associated with whatever happened to be the default embosser (and its settings) at the time you created the template. If you need to make a long-term change to the default embosser, you will also need to update either the templates you created or all of the new documents you create using those templates. If you make changes to the Document embosser setup and then create a new template, it is reasonable to assume that you would like to take advantage of Duxbury's sticky document settings and use those settings for all new documents created based on that template. I hope this makes sense.... As things now stand, when the user generates a template, that template will include information about the destination embosser, paper size, and format dimensions for documents created with that template. If paper size and format dimensions also stick to the embosser, how should this conflict be resolved? My thinking is that we're OK as-is, because a user will normally generate a template from a document targeted to the default embosser, paper size, and format dimensions. So documents created with this template will also be targeted to the default embosser, paper size, and format dimensions -- just as if created with one of our standard templates. Changing the document to a different embosser and paper size won't be hard.
