Beta Testers,

We've heard from a number of sources that we should do a better job choosing
the default template at installation time. We should make a selection that
is informed by the user's locale, rather than just assuming that everybody
will want to translate braille as we do here in North America.

This makes sense to me, so I'm prepared to do this for this release. (For
the record, this improvement is currently filed with reference number 1638.)

I think it best to do this based on the locale, and not the interface
language in which Windows is running. If you have a different opinion,
please let me know right away.

We are probably only able to support a unique choice on a country-by-country
basis. In fact, we aren't necessarily able to do that. The simplest thing
to do is to use the International Telephone Country Code. The United
States, Canada, and even some Carribean locations are all considered to be
the same location in this scheme. Fortunately, the braille rules in the US
and Canada are the same, so one template should do well for both countries.

So, please let me know, either by sending be a message directly or by
responding to the group, what should be the default template for users in
your country? And should that same template be used for other nations as
well?

- Peter
