Peter,

It is a script issue.

To reproduce:
1) with the scripts in place pen a .dxp file and select some text.
Notice the behavior.
2) go to the jaws\settings\enu directory and remove all the dbt.* files.
3) rerun the test in step 1 and notice the difference.

I hope this helps.

J. R.

J. R.,

I suppose that we understand why Control+Home might not work as you'd
like
-- Caryn probably just never set it up so that it would.

The slow response is probably more a matter of the slowness of DBT
itself in this regard. You might try (with sighted assistance) running
the same highlight test without JAWS running to see if the response is
substantially better. I wouldn't be surprised if its not.

I have noticed a couple of things that are somewhat problematic with the
jaws scripts.

In a braille document view if you do a ctrl+home, goto top of file, the
script reads the direct computer characters instead of the top line in
spoken text.
E.G, ",?9k+ 9 ,java" instead of "Thinking in Java".
The up and down arrow keys read as you might expect.

When doing a select of text with the right and left arrow keys the
speech response is VERY SLOW sometimes taking several seconds to catch
up with the cursor.

Thanks,
J. R.

Beta Testers,

Beta 5 -- a code-complete copy of DBT 10.5 -- is now available for
download
at:

http://partners.duxburysystems.com

I expect that it will be only about a week before we go to "Release
Candidate 1", which will contain improvements to the online help.
However, no other improvements or fixes to the program are anticipated.

For those of you who reported problems that we haven't fixed, I'm sorry.
We will try to get to these after release. Observe that DBT 10.5
contains a "Check for Updates" item in the Help menu. We do plan to
make updates available on a pretty regular basis.

Best Regards,

Peter
