This novel, written by William Golding, "Lord of the Flies" is about a group of 
young British school boys alone on a deserted island after the plane evacuating 
them from a war zone is shot down. They evolve from living as a civilized 
peaceful group to a violent, savage survival of the fittest individuals 
fighting for supremacy of the group.  The conch was used to signal meetings.

The teacher has locked the children into a new environment with no adults 
present.
