One of the few things I remember from my Latin classes at the UofA was that
arms regulation existed even back then. It was a criminal offense to bear arms
when crossing the Rubicon River to leave Gaul and enter proper Roman territory
- the Roman senate did not want armies overthrowing their civil authority.
Julius Caesar broke this law when he crossed the Rubicon and used his army to
become emperor of Rome.
In following today's news, it seems that firearms are used far more frequently
to commit crimes rather than to defend oneself or family.
The following link is a research article commissioned by the Connecticut
General Assembly Office of Legislative Research in their attempt to find a
solution to gun control. This link does sum up Canada's gun laws -

Gun Control Legislation in

You asked for a description of Canada's gun control laws. SUMMARY. Firearms are
federally regulated in Canada. The federal 1977 Criminal Law Amendment Act, as
amended, prohibits automatic weapons and sawed-off shotguns and rifles.

I know several fraternity brothers used long guns in competitions and my best
friend used a pistol in competitions. My training in the army taught me to be
safe in handling any kind of firearm. The only gun control back then was being
extremely terrified of the sergeant who ruled my life. I wish he was alive
today to give his opinion on this new proposed legislation.

Subject: discussion topic- Gun registry
Hi Guys
I tried a topic about the Ukrainian war but had little input so trying a new
topic.
Please comment on Treaudu's new legislation to re-establish the long gun
registry.
I think this is wrong.
This was tried and failed about 10 years ago while costing millions of dollars.
Gun crimes are up but it is not crimes committed by legal rifle owners.
Crimes committed by criminals are most often committed with illegal handguns.
There are significant laws now for legitimate ownerships and use of handguns.
The new legislation won't add to this.
I would love to hear some opinions on this.
Please be respectful as this topic has a chance of being more controversial
than previous ones.
Thanks
Wynn
