I think Michigan, Huron and Erie also rank in the top ten largest freshwater
lakes IN THE WORLD but they are dwarfed by Superior at the top of the list.
Canada has more than its share of the top ten in the world because I think
Great Slave Lake and Great Bear Lake are also in the top 10. That is the
extent of my lake trivia knowledge.

My uncle was a seaman who worked on the big merchant boats on this “lake” and
he always talked about some of the wild storms.

source being the Nipigon River.
16. The average underwater visibility of Lake Superior is about 8 meters or 27
feet, making it
the cleanest and clearest of the Great Lakes. Underwater visibility in
some spots reaches 30 meters.
17. In the summer, the sun sets more than 35 minutes later on the western shore
of Lake Superior than
at its southeastern edge.
18. Some of the world's oldest rocks, formed about 2.7 billion years ago, can
be found on the Ontario
