and buying the farm they had a place in Riverdale.His two sons Arnie and
Norm were raised in that house on the Elbow River with a full grown female
lioness Cleo .Cleo was housebroken and used to go out in the unfenced yard
to do her business.She shared a bed with the two boys and I have seen
photographs to prove it.Lars used to go into the enclosure at the zoo and
wrestle with Tuffy who he had brought back from Denmark as a baby in his
ships cabin.Tuffy became a large silver back gorilla but was always
delighted to see Lars and wrestle with him in his enclosure. I was visiting
Lars with my two kids who were 3 and four at the same time Al Oeming was
visiting with his cheetah.The kids had a good rough house with the
cheetah.When they reported to their mother they had been playing with a
really big cat.I omitted further details.
I later became President of the Zoo and through my years on the Board had
may interesting experiences.I have written several pieces arising out of
those experiences and if any one is interested I would be happy to send one
or two along.One I think you might enjoy is titled “These hands touched hot
