Hi Willow,
Be cautious about using Telus for email. It works fine for phone/cell, but
Telus has migrated all its email customers to Gmail. This has caused numerous
issues: If you use Microsoft Outlook for your mail, it requires a super-guru
to set it up properly when you have multiple accounts; Telus no longer supports
Outlook. My sailing club, company and personal accounts are all jumbled
together into one big mess. I have a MS Surface, a desktop using Win 10, and an
iPhone; each one is different. Diane also has an iPhone, iPad and desktop, and
has her account and our company account on them. When I got my surface
working, all her systems quit. I now have the Surface working, and she has her
iPad, but nothing else works properly. The same setup I used for my Surface
does not work for my desktop, even though both are using Win 10. Also, we
cannot send any messages from our working systems with Outlook to anybody who
is on the Shaw network (Rogers and others seem to work fine). Our messages to a
Shaw customer go to their Junk folder, or we get an “undeliverable” message, or
simply nothing happens. We only find out they did not get the message when the
person sends us a message that they have not heard from us for a long time.
Telus is aware of this issue but are totally unresponsive. Google says all
their systems are working properly and that the problem lies elsewhere. Shaw is
also aware but says all their systems are working properly. So, I cannot use
Outlook, and Gmail is a jumbled up mess. We are about do drop Telus and use a
different system. That means a change in our company address that we have used
since 1991. Of note: my personal email address is not with Telus, so it will
not change!

Subject: Public Mobile gone!
When I finally got a cell phone one of Sonia’s daughters suggested I sign up
with Public Mobile. Not a good choice...
Suffice to say, Public was damn awful. The problems were many capped today by
lack of service and a refusal to transfer my telephone number to Telus. Reason
unstated and no way to contact anything but a bot at Public. I was so fed up
that I made my first visit to Parkwood mall to effect the change. When Public
would not “port” my number, I decided to start a new account with Telus even
though it meant getting a new telephone number.
My new telephone number is:
403-396-3609
For now, no home phone, just the Cell.
I have been exploring Red Deer and very much like what I see. Like Calgary, it
seems more Americanized than BC communities, but not in a flagrant way. The
city has hills and valleys but once you go beyond city limits, you encounter
the flat endless prairie for as far as your eyes can see. The development my
new home is in is very well maintained. For unknown reasons, when signing up
for new utilities you are expected to listen as the agent reads out the entire
contract over the phone. Strange. And while Alberta likes to make a big deal
out of choice of utility companies does anyone really know the differences
between them?
But in the short time I have been here, I really have a good feeling about Red
Deer. On my scooter, I am five minutes more or less from Walmart, Canadian
Tire, four large grocery stores, Staples, and a myriad number of smaller
businesses, fast food outlets, and restaurants. My new doctor is also close
by. In fact, I could easily survive without a car.
So, cross out the old number and write in the new...
