and probably has something to do with you being here. It’s kinda special.
Years ago, I discovered the sapeurs, a subculture of extraordinarily dressed
dandies from the slums of

Their unlikely tale first sparked my curiosity for the little-known subcultures
of this earth.
Now I have an archive filled with portraits of life on the fringes and secret

that fused Edwardian dandy fashion with American rock’n roll. They’re a sight
to be seen.
And in Sweden, there’s a movement of ‘greasers’ said to be responsible for the
country having amassed more restored American 1950s cars than the United States

So in a way, all of this curiosity, all of my adventures ... came to be thanks
to that little subculture in the Congo. Ten years later, and I’ve now written
two books, with a third one on the way.
