Our Brother, Rev. Frank Lewis, has offered us a unique learning experience
facilitated by his partner Suzanne Pederson, M.Ed. who operates Hidden
Potential Coaching and Learning in Cranbrook BC.
You will remember that Frank described the recent email exchanges about
prejudice and racism as a Kairos moment, “a proper or opportune time for
action”. Frank described the proposed event as an opportunity for people of
white privilege (like us), to better understand our racism.
Suzanne is a consultant in the adult education field who has participated in
multicultural groups as both participant and coordinator. Much of Suzanne’s
work is as a First Nations education facilitator in the Treaty 8 and unceded
territories in B.C.
This is your invitation to participate in a facilitated educational event we
are calling White Privilege and its Role in Racism . This event has been
specifically tailored for our group.
Suzanne’s Event Description:
In light of your recent discussions, I invite you to engage in a facilitated
conversation about our privilege and bias. I have spent over 20 years working
with individuals and communities marginalized by society, systems, and the
“isms” of the dominant culture. Through two 90-minute virtual sessions you will
have the opportunity to explore your “privilege” and its impact on your values,
beliefs, and world views. As this work can be challenging to the heart and mind
it will be done with the highest level of respect and dignity.

Event Details:
* The event will consist of two 90-minute video conference sessions held a
week apart.
* Session #1 will be held on Tuesday March 23rd from 11:00 to 12:30 MDT
* Session #2 will be held on Tuesday March 30th from 11:00 to 12:30 MDT
* The video conference will be conducted using Zoom video conference
technology and tutorial assistance will be available in advance for any
Brothers who are not familiar with Zoom and would like help.

About the Rev. Frank Lewis:
Here is an extract from the biography that Brother Frank Lewis’ submitted to
Art Lee last year. It may help to clarify Frank’s passion about this subject
and why he has arranged this educational event for us.
After completing his B.Com. and LL. B, Frank practiced law in Grande Prairie
for 13 years. Then when a Kairos moment of “is that all there is” occurred, his
social activism was ignited. From the free vote in parliament on capital
punishment, gay and lesbian rights, and the First Nations apology, Frank found
a spiritual and social justice home within the United Church of Canada. After
careful discernment, Frank studied theology at St. Andrew’s College in
Saskatoon and over the next 23 years served congregations in Arcola
Saskatchewan, Lethbridge and Taber Alberta, Victoria and Cranbrook, BC.
Frank has retired and continues to call Cranbrook, BC home.
