I have been lurking for a while, but I don't think I have ever introduced
myself. My name is Suzy Temple. I live in southern New Mexico, and drive
a pair of pony mules, and several mini's single. I have a pair of mini
mules that drive double, but don't have any pairs harness that fits them
right now. Also, on the farm I live on, my friends have a wonderful
Percheron mule that they drive with a number of different horses and
mules, as they use her to break other horses to drive. She has taught
quite a few equines to drive, as she doesn't allow them to do anything in
harness except work. One of my pony mules has gotten too old to drive,
so I have retired him and usually borrow a friend's Welch pony stallion to
drive with my mule, Bill. They are the same height, and make a good pair,
even if they don't have matching ears. The pony has a habit of bolting
when driven single, but Bill doesn't allow him to misbehave with me, and
he has about given up the idea, as he figured out that if he tries it, he is
just going to have to work twice as hard as he does if he is a good boy.
(He is lazy) Last week, we came in from a drive, and I was telling Bill what
a good boy he was, and Pony surged up into the traces and started really
pulling, like he was trying to show me what a good boy he was too! :)
