The original Achenbach reins were 290 cm from bit to middle hole for the
draft rein, plus 140 cm from middle hole to the end, thus ttl 430 cm for the
draft
rein and accordingly 302 cm for the coupling rein, BUT the original Achenbach
Rein Measurements are hardly used anymore, as modern carriages bring you much
closer to the horses, so with the old Achenbach reins you would now have the
buckles in your hands. Unfortunately I do not know what modern harness maker
use, but Achenbach wants the buckles about 30 to 40 cm in front of your hands.
So measure your turnout and then see how long the reins would need to be for
you. Also, the original Achenbach measurements were always just for "horses"
and the size of the horses you would adjust by buckling into different holes.
So
there were no different reins for 14.2 hand or 17 hand horses.

The important item of Achenbach reins however remains, and that is 11 oval
holes at 4 cm distance, and the coupling rein 12 cm longer when buckled into
the
middle hole, reins 25 mm wide, only one hole at the bit billet as all
adjustments are done at the coupling rein buckle and never at the bit end.
