If he can't make it in a dressage arena, which generally should be good and easy footing, then he really shouldn't be without shoes, should he? And since you mentioned the special "barefoot trim". I have no special knowledge about it. I just go with what seems to me the natural way, pretty much as the foot is worked by nature itself, and just help a little here and there with the rasp, keeping the edges smooth, shortening the toe a little and keeping the inside flares from spreading too much on the hind feet. So yes, I think I help nature along a little there. I have heard about 4 point trimming and discussed that with our vet / farrier, and yes, at times rasp a little in that direction, so the sides don't break out too easily, so I shorten them a little. But most of what I do looks just like cosmetics to me and makes the foot look round and good. I don't need a special trim, since I rasp a little almost after every drive to clean up and smooth off the little knicks and knacks, as I wrote, as most women do with their fingernails. Hardy
