One of my minis was afraid when the pole touched him because it was lower than the shafts and unexpected. I grounddrove him in an open bridle and a friend held a broom handle that I attached to the collar. When we turned she allowed the handle to touch him as the pole would. He figured out very quickly that it wasn't a threat. We only had to do this a few times. After that he was fine. This technique was suggested to me by Linda Willis who heard it from Lisa Singer. Tha pair are going well and keep improving. I'm learning to drive them up into their bits and to make smooth transitions.
