Thanks for the help folks, still have not located any
clear pictures. Smuckers says they sell the Yankee
Breeching/Britchin, no pictures. Lisa Singer search
turned up some great marathon photos, always at an
angle! You could see the gleam of breeching strap,
just not where it went or attached. Great action
photos though, even one as a past ADS logo on their
website. Nothing showing a full side view in marathon
harness.

I did check the archives of CD-L, got the old
discussion about Yankee Breeching between Barb Lee and
Jonni, using it on a single. I think that is where
the comments on picture with kicking strap and
Quarter/Yankee breeching came from. Barb Lee calls it
Quarter Breeching from Military information she has
seen. Jonni appears to be the only person to ever use
Yankee Breeching successfully on a single, and she
said that was only good on one 4-wheel vehicle with
special shafts. I did not see the picture myself, not
sure what she did to modify her harness system.

I did turn up some odd drawings of draft harness with
trace carriers, odd crupper, hip strap arrangement
they called Yankee Breeching, in a harness catalog.
Not what we use, wouldn't want to send a new person
there to further confuse them. I am not sure what the
modified Yankee Breeching arrangement would look like.
Seems the harness arrangement name changes with each
maker.

Our Yankee Breeching has sewn-on flat loops that the
crupper straps slide thru to hold breeching in place,
just above the crupper buckles. The long strap comes
down from croup around hip, over ribs and attaches at
a ring on false martingale on girth. Breeching is one
long piece of leather strap 2-3 inches wide. Even
fastened short/tight, it still allows easy movement of
the hindquarters, no constriction. However there is
little to no play when horse slows, stops and
breeching comes into action. Lots of muscle available
for reverse of direction in backing up, even on a
hill.
The whole harness, hitching configuration, is a
working system, from neck attachment, thru body to
yankee breeching. Horse is engaged with harness,
working, going forward or in reverse.
Single horse does not have the neck collar, breast
collar to vehicle attachment point of pole or yoke, so
this Yankee Breeching system won't work for singles.
Kicking strap is useless here, no anchor points on a
pair, with only a single pole. Single has shafts on
both sides for kicking strap to anchor on.

The hunt for pictures is still on. I am going to have
to figure out how to post some pictures one of these
days. I do have a new computer coming, maybe that
will help.
