Hi Dan, I use plastic shoes, but not because of foot soreness, but because I do so much of my driving on paved roads, that I felt they are better for concussion. They act like they are wearing sneakers and seem to almost bounce along. I've had excellent traction with them on all surfaces, wet grass, mud, pavement and gravel. I would say the only downside I've found is that if the hoof does not land flat - you can have more wear coming off the toe as an example. I have not ever had enough shoe left for a reset(every 6 - 8 weeks), but I'd rarely reset metal shoes either. I have pictures if you want. The ones I've used are Ground Control Horseshoes. My farrier thinks they should have those lights in them like the kiddie shoes. Wouldn't that be a sight on a dark night seeing these lights twinkling around the pasture? Especially anything about which brands might be good or not good with ponies who have smaller feet. Sometimes I wish my horses had wheels.
