I have driven single for about 8 years and shown in local pleasure shows. I have also hitched and driven a pair a dozen or so times, using my mare and a friends mare so I do have a little experience. As for contacting the local driving society, not one of the members drives pairs only single. The local carriage club drives teams but they are mainly draft horses pulling farm wagons and that is not the type of driving I am looking to do. I have not had a pair of my own to drive before so I am excited, I thought I would have a pair a few years ago but I lost a mare in labor, saved the colt by c-section, and so lost the other half of my pair. Well, that colt is now 2 1/2 and I have started him driving single. As soon as my harness comes we will be in business. I can hardly wait.
