Hi Jerry,

A couple years ago I offered the Belgium/Hafflinger (Belflingers)
crosses that Jay talked of for sale on this list as well as the draft
horse list. My niece ended up buying the herd that composed of the
mares (full sisters) and their offspring sired by a Hackney Horse. I
might say a few things about crosses. The mares are pony size but very
drafty. Their 4 offspring are horse size and very drafty with the
exception of one mare who is lighter of body. All have pretty good
movement but when experimenting with crossing, you never know what you
are going to get both physically and mentally. Fortunately my niece
stepped up to the plate and saved them from horse auction (after my
friend passed away) and they all run together as a herd on lots of
land. Unfortunately, they are not being used for anything so one's
persons experiment is another persons rescue. I personally think it is
better to go out and purchase an existing animal to suit your purpose
than to try and design your own.

Ok......since it is a sale weekend till the end of the month and it can
be remotely driving related.....I have a filly (from the same
experimenting lady) who crossed a proven champion spotted American
Saddlebred mare with the Dutch Harness Horse Harmonie (who stands in
Kentucky at Vesty Show Horses). This filly is spotted and has
SPECTACULAR movement. She is 3 years old and been worked on the ground
for manners, longlined, and been saddled and led around with me on her
back. She is ready to be trained for harness and would make a very
fancy single driving horse. She has her mother's great disposition and
sense and has been evaluated by a professional as to her driving
prospect. I am not willing to carry her to fruition since I am near
retiring from driving in competition. Would someone be interested in
this unusual cross for a driving horse? She is bred to trot and her
mother was shown to her championship in fine harness. I am not offering
her free. There has been too much money put in to her and her future.
I would be happy to answer any questions and send photos to anyone
really interested. We are both located in Northern California....Grass
Valley to be exact.
