I just want to say a big thankyou to Sharon via the List. Rootsweb Lists have proved invaluable to me over the years as there is always some generous person out there who knows the answer to a problem, or where to find it.

I will take the liberty of asking again whether anyone has access to Fold3?

That is a really detailed reply... I hope it can be helpful. It's good to know that such details can be found.
This is the perfect time to dig deep into research.

I had a great reply to my query from the British Military group I subscribe to who were able to identify the soldiers regiment for her. Here is my reply to her and a link to the information about her soldier.

Hi Rosemary
I could tell from the photo he was a Lance Corporal but more than likely he would have been promoted later so that doesnt really help a lot. A couple of other things. The stick he is holding was called a swagger stick and was carried by NCOs - non commissioned officers - those who worked their way up through the ranks. The braid on his left shoulder was a lanyard often they would have something attached kept in the pocket like a pocket knife etc. Just got a great detailed reply to my query which gives you lots more information about your mans regiment and duties etc.. Here is a link to it
