First word, from Don:

Years ago I had a friend named Gene Vance who allowed
guilt to run his entire life. If he forgot to take out
the trash, he'd do something nice for his wife because
he felt guilty. If he missed his son's Little League
game because he had to work he'd do something special
for the boy because he felt guilty. Nice guy? Yes,
one of the nicest fellows I've ever known but he never
did anything just to be nice; every act of kindness was
attributed to some real or imagined occasion where he
felt he had somehow failed. I used to tease him
relentlessly about it and if he became annoyed and
made a snippy remark he'd immediately feel guilty
about mistreating a friend and, of course, I'd laugh
at him for feeling guilty, again. These days
I think of Gene a lot. I feel guilty because I rarely
see my grandkids, or spend enough quality time with my
wife. I feel guilty because we've done such a poor job
of keeping in touch with the many friends we normally
contact frequently by email or telephone. I feel guilty
because... well, for a host of reasons I can't really do
much of anything about right now. We're both happy,
well fed, in good health and busy. Too busy in fact.
Time is zipping away on invisible wings, where the heck
did it go? When did I lose track of it? Who says I'm
not paying attention? Yes I am! Argh! I feel so guilty.

A Little Humor.

From our other-brother Bill (Beeyil) Lanoue.
( Bill's blog http://ncvietvet.blogspot.com/ )

A man in a hot air balloon realized he was lost.

He reduced altitude to try to figure out where he was
when he spotted a woman below. He descended a bit more
and shouted, 'Excuse me, can you help me? I appear to
be a little off course. I promised a friend I would
meet him an hour ago, but I don't know where I am.'

The woman below replied, 'You're in a hot air balloon
hovering approximately 30 feet above the ground. You're
between 40 and 41 degrees north latitude and between
59 and 60 degrees west longitude.'

Amazed by what she said, the balloonist stated 'You
must be in Information Technology!' 'I am,' replied
the woman, 'How did you know?'

'Well,' answered the balloonist, 'everything you told
me is technically correct, but I've no idea what to
make of your information and the fact is that I am
still lost. Frankly, you've not been much help at all.
If anything, you've delayed my trip.'

The woman below smiled and responded,
'You must be in Management.'

'I am,' replied the balloonist,
'but how did you know?'

'Well,' said the woman, 'you don't know where you
are or where you're going. You have risen to where
you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You
made a promise, which you've no idea how to keep,
and you expect people beneath you to solve your
problems. The fact is you are in exactly the
same position you were in before we met, but
now, somehow, it's my fault.'

From Terri Lanoue.

A Retiree's Thought...
My wife said, 'Whatcha doin today?'
I said, 'Nothing.'
She said, 'You did that yesterday.'
I said, 'I wasn't finished.'

Last word, from Lisa:

A friend recently asked when she should start planting
her garden. I told her to hold off for a bit and do some
planning, cleanup, start seeds, lay out irrigation, anything
but plant. Two years ago here in Central Texas, we had
a light snow on Easter. The photos of snow on bluebonnet
blossoms was charming, but the gardeners who planted too
early were busy covering their baby plants in the howling
Texas wind.

Sure enough, we've had a cold, miserable, rainy last 4 days,
which means that when the sun comes out, dry, brown Texas
will explode in every shade of green imaginable. Then, the
famous wildflowers of Texas will start to bloom.

Life is good.

'Til next time,

Lisa

The most important people on the Internet, for you and I as
computer users, are software developers. The world's coolest
computer, without software, is like a car without fuel. It
might look great, but what can it do? It doesn't matter who
produces the software you love and use regularly, the developers
of that software need your support.

A bit of advice from Internet veteran Bayard J. Fox:

New computer users are often in awe of the things you can get
without cost on the Internet. There can be hidden costs for the
unwary. Use a 'throw away' email address to register, and be
constantly on guard against giving away personal information.
Use a firewall, and provide only the barest minimum of
information on questionnaires.
