Don's Patch Issue #2005-09-15 from http://www.don-guitar.com

Yeehaw, howdy folks. I was visiting my friend Harry the other day
and he said "We discovered a really good new cafe this morning."
I asked him the name of the place and he said "Um, wait a minute,
hmm, let's see, what's the name of that red flower that has thorns
and smells so good?" I asked if he was talking about roses and
he said "Yeah, that's it" raised his voice and yelled "Rose, what
was the name of that cafe where we had breakfast this morning?"

Yeah, I know, I don't usually open with a joke but I just heard
this one this afternoon and liked it. I figured you'd like it too.

Thanks to David Fekete's generous offer, six of you now have
gmail (google email) accounts. If anyone else wants a google
email account, drop me a line, leaving a valid email address,
and I'll forward your request to David. He, in turn, will send
you an official gmail invitation. By the way, thanks again
David.

I'm an avid reader of Fantasy and Science Fiction and I've just
recently discovered the Redwall series written by Brian Jacques.
The Redwall books are often compared with Watership Down
by Richard Adams. http://www.mayfieldiow.freewire.co.uk/watershp/

I'm not sure how I feel about the comparison but I loved Watership
Down and the Redwall books are wonderful. Here's a few Redwall links.

A possibly useful hint: A little box with a red "x" in it, on a web page,
can mean an image file is missing but it can also mean that Internet
Explorer "timed out" and stopped loading the page before all the images
were downloaded. If the image isn't showing because IE timed out, you
can force IE to resume loading the image by right-clicking on the little
red "x" and selecting "Show picture" from the context menu.

As a musician, I feel it's necessary to poke fun at
myself, and other musicians, as often as possible.
Here are a few musical laughs I've been saving.

A young child says to his mother, "Mom, when I grow up
I'd like to be a musician." She replies, "Well honey,
you know you can't do both."

Q: What do you call a beautiful woman on a trombonist's arm?
A: A tattoo.

Q: What's the difference between a banjo and an onion?
A: Nobody cries when you chop up a banjo.

Q: What do clarinetists use for birth control?
A: Their personalities.

Q: What did the drummer get on his I.Q. Test?
A: Saliva.

=================================

Ok, that's it for another issue. This one's a little smaller than usual
but we've been very busy just lately. I'll probably update the "personal
babble" page in time for the next issue.

Reader George wrote to request a gmail invitation and said he didn't get my
last issue. "Hey George, I responded to your post but your email
provider's
filtering bounced my reply. Your gmail invitation should have been sent by
now but it may also have bounced. If you have to read this issue online,
as you did the last one, you'll have to contact your ISP"

That's it then. I'll create the online version, upload it, and post this.
Then
I'll go fix myself a little snack. *smile* Life is good.

The most important people on the Internet, for you and I as computer
users, are software developers. The world's coolest computer, without
software, is like a car without fuel. It might look great, but what
can it do? It doesn't matter who produces the software you love and
use regularly, the developers of that software need your support.

A bit of advice from Internet veteran Bayard J. Fox:

New computer users are often in awe of the things you can get without
cost on the Internet. There can be hidden costs for the unwary. Use a
"throw away" email address to register, and be constantly on guard
against giving away personal information. Use a firewall, and provide
only the barest minimum of information on questionnaires.
