Security best practices dictate that the user should not get any more information that this. Even telling them they entered a valid user name is an invitation to try to discover the password. The best option for debugging is to put additional information into the server logs when this happens. But that should be an option that only gets turned on for debugging, as doing it every time a login fails can produce some big log files.
