If it's not the default, it should at least be a config-option. Our documentation-wiki also makes wide use of namespaces, and we also use the "sidebar" template with a separate sidebar for each namespace. One of features (and "selling arguments") that separates DokuWiki from other wikis is the possibility of having namespaces. And thus it seems strange not to take full advantage of this feature.
