You added a "." in front of the pdf-file.
because I need to use a relative path
If you use my example, it works (for me):
by "it works", you mean, it links to a page /path/to/file.pdf.txt ?
Or you mean, when you click, actually pdf file opens/dowloads?

Don't use the point.
when I remove the dot:

the image links to non-existen page
/pdf/file.pdf.txt
Maybe I don't get your problem right. Could you explain it again and
with more details?
the problem is:
on my page, I have image linking to pdf file. When clicked, pdf should
open/doewnload.
