[dokuwiki] hard returns

is there a setting in dokuwiki to get line feeds (hard returns) to be
displayed as is? eg if i type in the edit box:
this is line 1
this is line 2
then it should display just like that... currently it brings the two
lines together unless i double space, or use a space indent, to treat as
<pre> text (eg i lose all other formatting options)
