[dokuwiki] Tarlib.class.php and archive creation bug

Hi all,
Question... is the Maxg Tarlib implementation within DokuWiki
relatively unchanged since September 2006?
If it is relatively unchanged, then there's still a bug within the
implementation (which I can now detail since I've found my notes on
it) in regards to creating valid tar files in most situations users
will face. See [1], [2].
Is there any good reason to keep the tar creation portions within the
DokuWiki core?
Is it in use by anything currently?
My advice would be to remove the tar creation portions, but I'd
happily pop something in the bug tracker otherwise.
Any thoughts?
