I finished my plugin for rendering tab delimited tables in wiki text as dokuwiki tables instead (thanks Christoper for pointing out to use the parser_done event to correct section start/end positions!), and have set up a plugin page for it at http://www.dokuwiki.org/plugin:tabtables
Hope people other than myself find this plugin helpful, and I hope there aren't any bugs in it =P
