I think you would be surprised how little work there would be to
create a plain text renderer. I'd hazard a guess you could copy the
xhtml renderer strip all the code from just about every method except
cdata and you'd pretty well be there. Add in a quick check and
probable redo of the link and header methods and you could take the
rest of the morning off ;)
