I set up an environment to reproduce your issue:
- DokuWiki Anteater with Git version 2011-02-08
- "addnewpage" installed
- Debian 5.0.7 with Apache 2.2.9
- krb5-user 1.6
- Authentification against Windows 2008 Datacenter
  with ActiveDirectory and DNS role.
- 50 empty directories inside data/pages
- Page browsed with http://192.168.0.101/dokuwiki/doku.php?purge=1

AD-Authentification with {{NEWPAGE}} in startpage:

Page loaded in: 2,91 sec
execution of auth.php: 43ms

http://wiki.lupo49.de/~lupo49/tmp/dokuwiki/xdebug_AD_AUTH_Overall.png

Plain-Authentification with {{NEWPAGE}} in startpage:

Page loaded in: 2,69 sec
Execution of auth.php: 4,7 ms

Maybe my environment is missing a needed detail, but for it is working kinda
smoothly.
Normally the systems would be a little more faster, if they aren't running in a
virtualbox
and connected by wirelss lan to each other.

If it's worth for you, you could enable xdebugging and take a deeper look
inside the php
function calls, to get the execution time of each.

And please make sure that your DNS settings (especially FQDN to ActiveDirectory
host) are
correct.

Regards
Matthias
