It's not clear how this is used. Your github page has a broken link to its dokuwiki documentation page.
Your statement on github says that this preserves file names that might otherwise violate dokuwiki's naming protocol. But it doesn't say that it has any effect in reverse. That is, a file name which doesn't satisfy dokuwiki's naming protocol will not be output correctly. Moreover, it will not be accessible from the media manager.
