[dokuwiki] External edits, are there any problems with adding files 'from outside'?

I've just tried creating a file simply by editing it in place (i.e.
creating /<docuwiki home>/playground/newfile.txt), it seems to work OK
without any issues that I can see.

Is there anything I'm likely to be missing or is it in fact OK to
create files this way?  I'll most likely use it only for creating
files as opposed to changing them.
