Hi! My problem with dokuwiki isn't creating tables my problem is how to maintain them in a sane way? In a network documentation you have lots of small minimalistic changes every day. For that reasons most network documentation do suck (ours does too), because they are always out of date. So what I'm looking for is a system that does allow to update the documentation literally after you plugged in the network cable. Docuwiki is quite usefull for this task, because it can be used by multiple user with almost any device (it even does work on my Blackberry) and is quite easy to use. Only thing I'm missing is an easier way to change a table entry in row 6, column 27 from 'foo' to 'bar'. Having to use an external tool for that would make things a lot more complicated (= nobody will do it). cu andreas Mit freundlichen BlackBerry Grüssen Andreas Trawöger Stabstelle Technologie und Security Wiener Gebietskrankenkasse A-1103 Wien, Postfach 6000 Tel.: +43(1)60122/3664 Mobil:+43(676)8770 3664 Fax: +43(1)60122/2182 EMail: andreas.trawoeger@xxxxxxx ----- Original Message ----- From: dokuwiki-bounce Sent: 15.09.2005 18:26 To: <dokuwiki@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [dokuwiki] Re: handling large tables How about allowing HTML in the wiki, and using another tool to create/manage/edit your tables? I think you can export clean (no-extra-MS-markup-crap) tables from Excel (HTML only), otherwise perhaps the spreadsheet of OpenOffice? I have the following problem where I need some advice: I'm currently writing the documentation for a large Cisco Switch with 12 Modules with 16, 24 or 48 Ports each. It's pretty easy to put all the port names, vlan information & cable tagging into a table in OpenOffice and convert them to docuwiki format or use the CSV plugin for the same purpose. But what's the best way to edit the tables afterwards? If I plug a new server into Module 6, Port 27 of the switch, I have to update the table at exactly that spot. Editing tables in Wiki Syntax is quite error prone, if tables are quite large. But if I haven't missed anything, Dokuwiki doesn't have any support to make edititing tables any easier. So any suggestion, or tips how to write a template or plugin to make table handling any easier would be welcomed. cu andreas -- DokuWiki mailing list - more info at http://wiki.splitbrain.org/wiki:mailinglist -- DokuWiki mailing list - more info at http://wiki.splitbrain.org/wiki:mailinglist -- DokuWiki mailing list - more info at http://wiki.splitbrain.org/wiki:mailinglist
