Yes, I think the idea of some favourite/default/well supported plugins
is a good idea.  If one searches at the moment one often gets quite a
few similar 'possibles' and it's difficult to choose.  If there's a
subset of better supported plugins this might well make the choice
easier. 

I've not been very active here so far because I'm away from home for a
while.
