[directmusic] use tool on a segment...

Hi, all
I have created a tool to process midi messages, and intend to use it on a
segment. I have load a midi file in the segment. But it seemed no effect
occured at all. But when I used the tool on the performance, it effected on the
midi messages which I send directly to the performance. But strangely, it still
had no effect on the segment.
I think the performance performs the segment and the midi messages sent to it
in the mean time, so the tool should have effected both of them, because they
are all midi messages. So why... Is it because the tool is created for a
performance but not a segment? If so, why it still can't effect on the segment
when used on the performance?
